Normally men don’t give much thought before picking a belt. I understand that when getting late and you have to reach office or college on time or maybe you are one of those men who think s belts are only for holding your pants up.Yes it keeps your pants from falling or sagging or may be compulsory at work or gives a nice formal touch or adds some color and style to your everyday college wear. But they are more than that. Belts are one of those subtle accessories that can make or break a look. It is one of those minute differences between looking ok and looking great.

Belts are stylish, fashionable and let’s not forget highly useful and functional. For most men it is a part of their everyday ensemble. So why not put some thought in selecting the right belt and coordinating it well, to look dapper.
For those of you who don’t know, belts are generally of three types based on their style. They are:
- Dressy
- Casual and
- Studded
The studded belts give a very Goth look; however there are a few which do look cool, especially if you are pulling off the biker look. The dress belts are more refined. They are for formal and special occasions. Dress belts are usually thinner than casual belts. Casual belts are thicker and generally sold in sizes small, medium and large. Casual belts in fabric looks great when worn with sneakers. If you are up for it you can even play with colors, picking contrasting or subtle hues in your belts. The leather casual belts are a nice option too. But care should be taken when wearing these. Remember to always wear a size bigger than your waist size.
Key Points to remember before buying belt:
- The number one rule, which one should never forget is that your belt should match your shoes, especially with respect to color and texture
- Match black shoes with black belts, dressy shoes with dressy belts, matt finish brown leather shoes with matte finish brown leather belt. Try to get the textures and colors as close to each other as is possible.
- So my advice would be to wear the shoesor carry them along with you while buying a new belt so that you can come as close as possible
- The belt buckles for dressy belts should be simple and classy. Match it with your watch and accessories for a more dapper look
- Please check the belt buckles before buying any belt
- Check the studded belts carefully, the inner or the lower part of the belt should not have any piercing or pokey material that is those studs nailed in should in no way hurt you or rip your clothes.
Here are some Tips to maintain your belt:
- Don’t, I don’t care what the circumstances are, but never team up a belt, any belt with sagging pants. Defeats the purpose, looks confusing and to add to this chaos defeats logic
- Clean the belt buckles regularly
- Don’t roll the belt when not in use. It wears them out more quickly. Always hang them vertically on a hook or a hanger to avoid distortion of the belt and increase its lifespan
- Worn out belts gives a very bad impression so avoid wearing belts after they have worn out and replace them with a new one
These are some of my ethics of belts for men for a more stylish and sleek look.
